I wanted to give packing for the Camino special attention. In New Zealand we managed a whole year with a 16-kilo pack, so why the hell does this pack weigh 10 kg for 20 days, on a trip where I need next to nothing?! That’s roughly how I commented on the weight of my pack as I put it on the airport scales, and again every day as I carried it on my back. Honestly, answering the question of what to pack for the Camino can be a tough nut to crack.

The Camino is an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to try a long-distance walk. It’s also ideal because you need nothing. So I’d take my lead from Zdenicka, for whom this was a first longer trip. If you’re unsure what to pack for the Camino, the answers are below!

What Zdenicka packed for the Camino

  • Sleeping bag
  • 2x vest top, one long-sleeve top, one short-sleeve top,
  • a long top for sleeping, but also for wandering around.
  • Hoodie, jacket (a windbreaker 😁, extremely not waterproof)
  • Leggings, shorts.
  • A microfibre towel,
  • Socks x5.. underwear (BY FEEL)
  • Swimsuit 🤦🏻‍♀️(useless).
  • Flip-flops and walking shoes,
  • Poncho.
  • Toiletries
