Slovenia is small, beautiful and still a little underrated. And yet it holds the Alps, the Mediterranean, karst country and rivers with turquoise-blue water – all in an area smaller than half of Bohemia. What to see in Slovenia will pleasantly surprise you, whether you’re drawn to nature or to cities.

In this section you’ll find guides to Ljubljana, tips for Bled and its famous lake, a guide to Triglav National Park, Bohinj, the Soča and the coast of the Bay of Piran. We write about how to combine activities – hiking, kayaking, cycling – with easy-going city sightseeing, and how to get around Slovenia without a car.

A quick ad break: Slovenia is more affordable than its Alpine neighbours Italy or Switzerland, but the nature and infrastructure are on a comparable level. We look for accommodation through Booking.com, and activities and trips – kayaking on the Soča, guided hikes in Triglav – through GetYourGuide.

Slovenia is ideal for a weekend or a week. Take some inspiration and head off for turquoise water and Alpine views.
