The cost of the Camino de Santiago is individual. Every pilgrim has their own idea of what they want to spend on the way. In the end you might spend more, or less. Going solo? Cooking in the albergues, or eating in restaurants? All of it affects the cost of the Camino, but it’s definitely not something I’d get hung up on. You’re not going on a pilgrimage to save money, but to explore, taste and have fun… As the saying goes – there’s always some cash left over.
Camino del Norte costs in 2021
In total we took:
- €300 in cash.
- A topped-up Revolut card, which I loaded along the way using Apple Pay and then exchanged from my CZK account to a EUR account. Three taps and we had euros.
The flights back to Prague really did us over. We bought them in advance and at the time the price seemed fine. But when we then bought flights to Santander almost at the last minute, I thought… “damn, they robbed us.” Some of you are surely thinking at least drinks were included. Well, they damn well weren’t – not even food! 😀

PS2: The more attentive among you surely noticed that the table says “Pipeny” instead of “Pišta”. Yes, besides Pišta my other nickname is Pipeny – my dad has called me that since I was little. Only child.
Either way, the cost of the Camino, as mentioned in the intro, will be different for every pilgrim. 🙂

We thought this year’s pilgrimage would be less expensive, because we already knew the ropes. But… see for yourself in the cost table.
A detailed cost table – our Camino budget
As you can see, the difference over 2 years is about 8k CZK per person – roughly a 70% increase compared with 2021. Accommodation, which has gone up, plays a big part in that. Inevitably – more people are walking, costs rise for the owners, the competition is tougher, and so on. So when booking accommodation, definitely weigh up whether to sort it at the last minute or a few days ahead. As I mentioned in previous articles, we sorted everything about 2 days in advance through Gronze.com or directly via Booking.
