One pond, one loop – and yet an experience that perfectly captures the character of the whole town. Calm, water, flat ground, and time in no hurry at all.
Svět pond
Svět pond forms a green ring around the town and the loop around it is Třeboň’s natural artery. It isn’t a classic tourist route with crowds and souvenirs – it’s the everyday route of the locals, who come here to run, walk the dog or just switch off.
I remember we used to come here with primary school every June for our regular walk around the pond. The reward afterwards was ice cream in the town centre!
The pond was created in the 16th century under the direction of the genius pond builder Jakub Krčín. And no, the locals weren’t initially delighted with it. The pond was originally called Nevděk (Ingratitude) – people objected to the flooding, the labour and the changes to the landscape.
Only over time did Nevděk become Svět (World), and today we can’t imagine Třeboň without it. Irony? More like proof that good things are sometimes only recognised in hindsight.
The walk around Svět in Třeboň: where it goes and how long it is
The whole loop measures roughly 12 kilometres and runs on surfaced paths, through forest sections and along the dam with views over the water.
No hills, no technical sections. The route is ideal even for complete non-athletes.
It’ll take you roughly 2-3 hours depending on your pace and stops. There are 16 of those along the way. You can stop at them or not.
Where to start the walk around Svět
It’s ideal to park at one of the free car parks by the sports facilities. The marked areas P2, P3 and P4. You can leave the car here without paying. Because the walk around Svět is a loop, you’ll come back here from the other side, from the town centre.
You can of course go the other way, starting towards the centre. But that robs you of the reward for completing the whole route. 🙂

Don’t fancy walking the whole loop? Try a cruise on Svět pond. On a 60-minute trip you’ll see the town and the landscape from a completely different perspective and learn plenty of interesting things.
In season you can also take a cruise with live music on the Petr Vok boat.

Where to stay in Třeboň
Accommodation in Třeboň is about location and mood. Not about how many stars are above the door. The town is small and calm and you’ll manage most things on foot – so it makes sense to choose mainly by what you want right on your doorstep: the town centre, the water, the spa, or quiet.
