The basic idea was to save ourselves some effort while traveling. Fortunately, we had everything figured out, so the next step was to pare down our travel gear. Whether traveling together or separately, we’ve always traveled with backpacks, but it wasn’t until our last (un)planned trip that we realized a new project was taking shape. Through this project, we’re highlighting the fact that it’s possible to travel long-term even without “indispensable” items.
Simplicity and efficiency are the hallmarks of backpacking. We want to prove that even a trip lasting longer than half a year can be managed with the absolute bare minimum. We’ve achieved material freedom, developed stronger back muscles, expanded our vocabulary to include swear words, cultivated an eye for detail, and—most importantly—learned not to categorize our belongings.
Extraordinary people do extraordinary things
“Travel with a Backpack” is a project that has helped us begin to truly experience and appreciate “ordinary” things and experiences. It’s strange… finding a certain balance, because if you expect too much from life, you might lose everything, but if you expect too little, you might end up with nothing at all!

We strive to inspire, to teach people to love their loved ones, to break free from addictions, and to dispel the myths of fear about the outside world among us Czechs. You can see for yourselves in the articles about Karlík and Pišta that even the greatest comfort in every respect is no obstacle.
Not everyone is a fan of this lifestyle, but everyone loves the extraordinary things that ordinary people do. If you share our vision, join us by using the hashtag #cestujsbatohem or by posting a photo. On the other hand, if you’re looking for information or need advice, we can connect online—because we don’t just call moms. And if you just want to follow our travels, there are blog posts, Instagram and Facebook profiles, and a YouTube channel—all just for YOU!
